KAENI

Kaeni is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, singer and environmentalist in Toronto, Canada.  His music is heavily influenced by R&B and Reggae, with flavors from his East African Indian heritage.  After previously collaborating on local and international music projects, Kaeni brings us his heartfully-crafted signature sound, rooted in both hemispheres, bridging across genre and culture.

The word “Kaeni” is a Swahili invitation to come sit and be in harmony – within ourselves, between us, and with Earth.

THE SINGLES

Face The Night

Appropriately my debut single, this song is about committing to my Truth, in the face of my fears.  Ultimately, that first step is a leap of faith.

Face The Night is downtempo R&B weaved with soft bansuri and tabla that hearken back to my Indian roots.

I hope this song catalyzes for you a renewed commitment to your own path.

I Still

I wrote "I Still" from a place of deep hurt.  I started with harsher words in jagged rhythms…and finally landed on a softer melodic and honest message that came from digging deep and finding a position of unfaltering strength and light.

Ultimately, I hope you dig the groove and that "I Still" helps you find strength in your hard times…that it reminds you to choose Love as your weapon of affirmation.

The song is heavy, yeah?  It’s a dust-yourself-off, face your pain, and rise above it kind of ting.

Mother's Milk

Mother's Milk came out of a personal experience with my 8-month old daughter in Costa Rica - and a realization of the deep value of mothers across all life.

Mother's Milk is a celebration of mothers, especially mothers in immigrant families, who, amid the upheaval of our lives, raised us to be good human beings with strong and ancient values.  Mothers are responsible for the continuity of culture, for the continuity of life and spirit.

The song blends R&B with an East African guitar riff, and the chorus is in Kiswahili.

Saltwater Dreams

Saltwater Dreams draws on an age-old metaphor describing our souls returning to the Creator like so many water drops returning to the Sea.  I extend the metaphor to parallel the environmental and spiritual crises of our time  – that no matter the pollution of our world and our hearts – we will course-correct and finally find our way home.

Fragile

When the illusion and confusion start to fall away.  When it becomes clear that the undeniable physical chemistry has been overshadowing the emotional incompatibility between us.  How my heart has confused love and lust and left me between passion and despair, faith and fragility.

Collaborating with East African, Indian, and Sufi artists is an exciting part of my music production - and a celebration of my heritage.
